Write a children's story in 50 words or less. With a beginning, a middle, and an end. That's the challenge. Every year Vivian Kirkfield hosts #50preciouswords and sometimes I participate...but 50 words is so, minuscule!
To get a sense of how tiny 50 words is, the paragraph above was 36 words and I didn't say much. This year I found a Franken-thing in my files that I thought I could edit (heavily) and turn into something worth sharing.
So here it is, my 47-word entry into 50 Precious Words. Additional information and entries can be found at VIVIAN KIRKFIELD – Writer for Children | Picture Books Help Kids Soar
MONARCH, NEWLY EMERGED
Orange wings struggle on endless grass.
Wrinkled
Alone
Watched from above
Until…
Swoosh!
Tender hands
offer safety.
A covered perch
to stretch
and dry.
As shadows shift
and time ticks,
hopeful hearts
know
they’ve given what they can. The
gift
of time.
Sometimes
that's all we need.
THE END
